LOVELY, EARLY, NUGGET BOOT POLISH ENAMEL SIGN

This enamel sign for Nugget Boot Polish is a fantastic example dating from the early 1900s.
Nugget Boot Polish is cited as being one of the few brands of boot polish available in the 19th century. Nugget ran as a brand until 1929 when a merger lead to the name changing to Chiswick Products Ltd.
This sign's early production is reflected in it's quality - a heavy base metal with a thick enamel coating. The quality production means the sign has aged brilliantly - there are some small areas of enamel loss but nothing that impacts the legibility of the piece where the typography with it's bowed/swollen 'trompe-l'œil' effect has real impact. This particular example has a white shadow to the lettering too which is particularly unusual.
The sign hangs well and sits flat - it can easily be hung using the original mounting holes.
It measures 122cm (4ft) wide x 61cm (2ft) high.
