Downs, Coulter & Co Limited were registered as Loom Operators and Weavers in Bradford (West Yorkshire). According to Companies House, the company started trading in 1893 and registered as a limited company in 1916. Sadly it seems the textiles company fell on hard times towards the end of the last century with most returns/reports ending around the millennium.

This large, engraved brass sign is a legacy from the company's more prosperous years - an impressively thick sheet of brass, deeply engraved with a strong, simple typography - traces of the original wax still fill the letter recesses. The sign probably dates close to the company's incorporation in 1916...

The sign has polished to a reasonable degree and contrasts nicely with the engraved letters leaving them nice and clear - the sign sits flat with just a couple of knocks and dents. The corners and the six fixing holes remain in excellent shape.

The sign measures 91cm wide, 30cm high and is 1.5mm thick.
