Byrrh (pronounced beer) was founded in France in the 19th century and is a wine-based aperitif, that is apparently 'the kind of old-school cocktail ingredient that is really coming back into vogue'!

Byrrh were always very big on advertising with the company's branding appearing in a number of mid-20th century (normally French) films and even a French stamp in the 1930s. As this bright, bold enamel sign shows they definitely went for impact over subtlety!

This particular example is dated to 1952 and remains in lovely, bright condition - this example is nicely framed with a crisp, white border and has a 1cm return on all edges adding to the piece's rigidity and aiding hanging.

The sign measures 86cm wide x 43cm high.
