LARGE, VIBRANT, BIGG'S TOBACCOS ENAMEL SIGN

This large Bigg's Tobaccos enamel sign is a fantastic example of it's type, with a great surface gloss and vibrant colours. Measuring in at just over 1m wide, it's a real statement piece.
Advertising for Bigg's tobaccos isn't particularly common and there's little information about the firm, though it would seem that James Bigg was a "Tobacco Merchant And Manufacturer" from the mid-19th century, through to some time in the early-mid 20th century (possibly incorporated into Redford's tobaccos).
This sign is likely to date to the 1930s/'40s and has survived the decades in excellent order with just a couple of small patches of enamel loss in the lower left of the sign and some very light rust staining running down from the upper edge - just enough wear to add to the character of the piece without affecting it's impact or legibility. The original mounting holes are all present and even these typically vulnerable areas have minimal enamel loss around them. The back of this sign is a text book example of what the back of an original, early enamel sign should look like...
The sign measures 102cm wide x 76.5cm high and displays beautifully.
