In the early 20th Century around two thirds of all cigarettes sold in England were Player's. "Players Please" was a slogan that was introduced in 1924 and became heavily embedded into the brand's identity.
Here we see that slogan displayed in a vibrant red and white colourway in this large (1.5m wide) enamel banner sign which probably dates to the 1940s/'50s. The sign feature's the company's wonderfully iconic, flowing typography and it has survived in fantastic, bright condition with a near perfect surface gloss (see the last photo). There are just a few small patches of enamel loss around the very outer edges of the sign, but generally it survives in very, very good condition. Without it's direct reference to cigarettes / tobacco this is a piece of vintage signage that fits amongst modern decor just as happily as vintage. It sits nice and flat and can be hung easily using the original mounting holes.
The sign measures 152.5cm wide x 35.5cm high
