In the early 20th Century around two thirds of all cigarettes sold in England were Players. 'Navy Cut' were one of their more popular brands and this logo with the portrait of the 'Hero' sailor is truly iconic.

This cardboard panel is likely to have come from the lid of a wholesale box of cigarette packets c.1920s-30s - it's an example of when everything was done beautifully and with pride such that even the distribution packaging was embellished with wonderfully detailed, colour, pictorial branding.

This cardboard panel has been basically framed in a mid-century dark wood (oak?) frame and is ready to hang. There are a few surface scratches and the panel has darkened over the years but it remains fully legible and has a real vintage charm.

Including the frame the piece measures 48cm high x 42cm wide
