The BP Motor Spirit Union Jack has to be one of the most iconic pieces of English Automobilia. Produced in the early 1920s the graphic was employed in a variety of formats of enamel signage - single sided examples ranged from 1-6ft in diameter and they also made double-sided flange signs like this.
This particular example was produced by Franco Signs, who at the time still operated out of West London. In any format, these signs are becoming increasingly sought after and subsequently hard to find - this one has been the 'victim' of someone's air rifle practice and this affects one side in particular. The other side remains in much better condition but does still have some losses (particularly along the right hand edge) and some pellet chipping. The flange itself remains in place and intact and the sign can be secured by this in the manner originally intended or sat upon a surface. Despite the damage the iconic graphics remain instantly recognisable and this piece represents a chance to own a piece of automotive history at a much more reasonable price.
The sign measures 61cm wide, 40.5cm high and the flange is 5.5cm deep.
