AN ICONIC MICHELIN SHIELD SHAPED ENAMEL SIGN

£999
Michelin and their Bibendum character are iconic in the automotive world and during the mid-20th century they adopted this shield shape into their enamel advertising and used this blue background to advertise their car tyres, a yellow for tractor tyres and a red for bicycle tyres.
This particular example is dated to December 1970, but uses the same design used from the late 1950s. It is a well preserved example, very bright with a wonderful suface gloss (scroll through the images as I've tried my best to demonstrate this). There are a few surface marks / scratches and the lower right hand mounting tab is missing (with some enamel loss in the same corner and well as the lowest point) but it hangs perfectly fine off the remaining tabs and displays well.
This is an incredibly sought after piece that is becoming increasingly difficult to find in good, original condition. The sign measures 80cm high (83cm inc. tabs) x 68cm wide and has a small (approx. 2cm) return which aids it's rigidity.
