The wooden propellers of early 20th century aircraft are beautiful things - fantastic timber, skilfully assembled to form a lovely, yet functional shape. The mid-20th century practice of repurposing these wooden propellers after their service has ended isn't uncommon and I've seen everything from picture frames to stick stands made. This seat which is formed from two sections of propeller is an example I've not seen before (perhaps, at least in part, because it's design uses a lot of the relatively scarce material) and displays the form of the propeller wonderfully.
The wood holds a good, rich colour and has lovely pattern to the grain. The details are simple but pleasant with nice cut-outs to the base of each side and a small chamfer along the length of the supporting wooden brace. The piece would make an excellent hall seat, but would also function very well as a coffee/bedside table.
The piece stands 71.5cm high, 58cm wide and is around 30cm deep
