SERVICE DEPOT - ANTIQUE ENAMEL SIGN FRAGMENT
£0
£999
A charming piece (quite literally) of early enamel automobilia.
This fragment of signage comes from the left side of a longer banner sign - probably from above a garage / forecourt, 'Service Depot -' would have sat on the left, the name of the establisment in the middle and then another of the establishment's offerings on the right.
The typography is beautiful; simple yet orante - the white lettering would have been set against a deep, cobalt blue background which has now faded to a grey (fairly common with early enamel signs). Although it's hard to date, it's likely this is from the early 20th century. It's certainly lived a life; along with the fading there is enamel loss around the outer edges and some areas of loss on the main face - these add to it's character without impacting it's legibility.
It measures 38cm wide x 20.5cm high and has two holes in the upper edge to allow it to be hung.
