This bold, striking blue and white enamel sign/ plaque displaying the letter H is a bit of an oddity. It is a complete piece; not a cut-down / element of a larger sign, but the purpose / function of a single letter isn't obvious. This piece is one of a small number of NOS (unused) signs salvaged from a Dutch basement, they're all in the same format but with a variety of letters. 

 

This piece was produced by the Dutch enamelers Langcat and is likely to date to the 1950s. The bottom corner is marked with the Dutch Patent No. 30871 which belongs to Langcat and relates to the corner mounting tabs / ears that we see on this sign, allowing it to be affixed to a wall without risking damage to the enamel of the sign. 

 

This piece has survived in good condition with just a tiny amount of surface corrosion to the mounting tabs and around the outer edges, most notably around the upper corners and the lower of the left edge. There is also a patch of enamel loss to the lower right corner that hasn't yet corroded (i.e. shows bright metal). In my opinion this adds to the character and authenticity of the piece. The rich blue background remains vibrant and the enamelled surface retains a deep and even gloss.
