Byrrh (pronounced beer) was founded in France in the 19th century and is a wine-based aperitif, that is apparently 'the kind of old-school cocktail ingredient that is really coming back into vogue'!

Byrrh were always very big on advertising with the company's branding appearing in a number of mid-20th century (normally French) films and even a French stamp in the 1930s. As this bright, bold tin sign shows they definitely went for impact over subtlety!

This particular example is dated to 1951 and was produced in Belgium. It remains in lovely, bright condition with vibrant colours and a great surface gloss. It's in very clean condition with just a few light surface scratches and a few losses around the outer edges. The mounting tabs remain in the corners, though a little bent they function for hanging. The sign has a 1cm return which helps with it's rigidity.

 

It measures 86cm wide x 43.5cm high.
