LYONS CAKES DOUBLE-SIDED ENAMEL SIGN W. FRAMEWORK

To find this early, Lyons Cakes enamel sign with the beautiful scrollwork shaping ad graphics, parchment yellow background and Royal Coat of Arms is a real rarity, to find it complete with it's original wrought iron frame work is rarer still...
This example is in particularly good condition with virtually no enamel loss to the main area of the sign, just some rust coloured discolouration that has run down from the framework over the years (but frankly I'd say this adds to the age/character of the piece, rather than detracting from it). Thanks to the Coat of Arms for H.M. The King we know the sign was produced between 1910-'36 and we can see from the address that this was during the height of Lyons' occupation of one of the United Kingdoms largest food factories located in the heart of Hammersmith, London (could you imagine the value of more than 13 acres of real estate in West London now?!).
The sign can easily be hung using it's original mounting points and displays beautifully with an even, albeit, slightly muted gloss present across both sides and with the blue enamel layer for the lettering sitting raised above the rest of the surface (see photo #5).
The sign itself measures 38cm wide x 54.5cm high, including the iron frame work it's 56.5cm wide x 84cm high, the hanging tabs (with the screw holes) are 9.5cm across.
