£999
General Service English Wall Pictures - Scenes of Daily Life was a series of 8 illustrations drawn by Elizabeth Skilton and printed by Lowe & Brydone (printers) Ltd, London, NW10. These were published around the 1950s.
This large (just over 1m wide!) framed poster is no.8 in the series - a train station scene. It's a truly wonderful illustration + the styling and colours are very 'of the period' and there is a fantastic level of detail with posters, sign posts, kiosks and all manner of outfits included. It is apparently a chromolitograph on linen-textured paper. This example appears to be mounted on hardboard.
The framing and glazing is later, but was clearly done a number of years ago. The silvered frame has picked up some scuffs and scratches, but it still displays well. The board itself is in decent order, there is some discolouration along with some scuffs and scratches including a few losses around the outer edges most notably one in the lower right. The framing is slightly closer on the left side than the right. Generally though the colours are good if slightly mellowed and the poster displays very well - a real statement piece with lots of details to look at.
Including the frame the piece measures 105cm wide x 80cm high x 3.5cm deep.
