Measuring in at just shy of 1m high, this early 20th century umbrella advertising poster is a real statement piece that oozes charm. The poster's design is just wonderful; it has vibrant colours and excellent levels of detail. In the lower right it is signed 'R. Hannich' which I believe to be Rudolf Hannich and artist and illustrator who was born in 1880 and died in 1965 - although I cannot find this design amongst his works, his style is similar and the timeline fits.

The large, red umbrella that shields the beautifully dressed masses below from the dashing rain is 'The best umbrella for gentlemen and ladies' with a '1000 days guarantee' - big claims! Curiously though there is no brand name/manufacturer/retailer specified on the poster... There's a black boarder that runs the whole way around  so I don't think it's been trimmed down / that there is any missing... I suspect that the rectangular box at the bottom was meant to hold the name of the umbrella manufacturer and or retailer - the fact that it's been left blank could mean that this poster was an artists proof or that the same poster was issued to multiple retailers who would add their own details - perhaps this one never made it to that stage? A bit of a mystery, but something that add's to the pieces history...

Whatever the reason that this poster was never completed/pasted up, the fact that it wasn't has meant that it's survived in decent condition - judging by the vibrancy of the colours, somewhere away from daylight. At some point in the poster's history, it was poorly stored and this has resulted in a lot of creasing across the whole piece, but it has spent it's more recent years sat flat and has been professionally framed minimising the visibility of the creases (please see close up photos for a better idea).

Including the frame the poster measures 94.5cm high x 65cm wide x 2.5cm deep and is ready to hang.
