This vintage, French scratch-built model bus is a fantastically charing thing. Decorated in a perfectly faded blue, with contrasting red wheels with whitewall tyres. A little wonky, a little asymmetrical and distinctly basic I would describe the maker as a competent amateur...

The bus is 'sign written' for Castellane Gare (station) - Castellane is a small town in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence of southeastern France. Below it's destination it bears advertising for 'Suze' - a bitter French apéritif, the yellow squares were probably cut from a newspaper/magazine and then pasted on.

A difficult thing to date, I would guess that the bus is mid-century... It was obviously used / enjoyed, it seems to have had a front end collision with the front left corner slightly detached, it's also been the victim of a crayon wielding graffiti artist who's scrawled along the left side of the bus. A couple of the window spindle's are broken and there are plenty of dents, scratches and there are only two benches left inside the bus (though I don't think there were ever many more). In my opinion, the damage adds to the charm of the piece, rather than detracting from it.

The bus measures 57cm long, 17cm high and is 16.5cm across.
