WEST, USHER & CO - VICTORIA TOWN, DEAL - ESTATE AGENTS ENAMEL SIGN

£999
A lovely example of an uncommon piece of local (Kent) enamel signage. From the 'Government Auctioneers & Estate Agents' (/letting agents) West, Usher & Co - for a furnished property to let in Victoria Town, Deal, Kent, UK.
In 1863, the Naval Yard in Deal was closed down and the land was sold to the Conservative Land Society, who developed it into the town's first housing estate, which became known as Victoria Town. It had notably wider roads than the old town's 'streets', able could cope better with the increased traffic of the Victorian Era.
The permanence of an enamel sign makes it an unusual choice for such a specific advertisement (to let, furnished) and so I would presume that this is related to the aforementioned development - a housing estate with an on-going supply of furnished properties (probably linked to the goverment / housing association).
An interesting piece of social history, preserved in fantastic order - just slight enamel loss around the outer edges and a couple of very small patches on the face of the sign. Generally in very good order with a lovely gloss. Hard to date but probably early 20th century...
The sign measures 56cm high x 45cm wide, can be hung easily using it's original mounting holes and displays well.
