This marquetry panel depicts a naval scene with two sail ships - one sailing under the name-flag 'Keepsake' - and a smaller sail boat, afloat close to the coastline with a lighthouse visible in the background.

The inlaid work is set within a burr wood border and is beautifully detailed, the panel would have originated from a 'Trinity House' box produced c.1880.

Trinity House was an organisation dedicated to safeguarding shipping and seafarers - keeping all lighthouses and lightships around the coast of Great Britain manned. This meant a lot of lighthouse keepers with a lot of spare time on their hands, many produced marquetry boxes (Trinity House boxes) to sell to the captains of the ships that sailed near.

This panel is a wonderful survivor and remains in good, stable condition with traces of the original colouring still present.

It measures 38cm wide x 25cm high x 1.5cm deep.
