This National Live Stock Insurance Co. Ltd advertising show card dates back to an era where the horse played a key part in functioning society. The Live Stock Insurance Co covered; 'Stallions, In Foal Mares, Private Carriage Horses, Working Horses, Hunters (and Cattle)' and had their offices on the Strand - London - certainly a different time! 

 

The lithographically printed show card probably dates to the early 20th century and features a wonderful mix of typography, graphics and a striking pictorial of a horses head all displayed in a warm colour way. 

 

The show card has survived the decades well, especially considering the vulnerability of the medium. There are scuffs and creases scattered  throughout the piece and the lower left corner has been bent slightly. There is also some discolouring / marking across the piece, mainly around the outer edges. Despite this the card is still fully legible and displays very well.

 

The card measures 58.5cm high x 44.5cm wide.
