Abraham Spivey's Globe Brewery produced Ales & Porters on the site of the former Globe Pub in King Street, Huddersfield until 1895.

 

This beautifully graphic lithographic advertising card / poster is likely to date to the 1880s and was produced locally by J. Wood & Co. printers. A fantastic example of Victorian design; the typography is punchy and bold and the pictorial scene of the brewery is wonderfully detailed. 

 

Wine & Spirits, Ale & Porter - what better subject matter could you want for kitchen / pub / bar decor? At some point during the early - mid 20th century, the card has been framed and sits behind lovely, old wobbly glass - the frame has been painted gold, but this fits well with the yellowed card and red / gold lettering.
