This is the 'psychedelic' re-release poster of the 1968 Stanley Kubrick classic. Re-released in 1972/3 MGM were trying to tap into the hallucinogenic craze happening in the US in the early '70 ("the ultimate trip") and it worked well with the film being a huge hit the second time around! 

 

These 'Space Child' posters are particularly scarce Christian groups in the US took offence at the embryonic imagery and the film's perceived encouragement of drug use and a large number of the original posters were torn down / destroyed in protest.

 

Many of those that did survive would have found themselves pinned / taped / blu-tacked to bedroom walls, so it's particularly difficult to find an original example in good order like the one we have here. This piece is in nigh on perfect condition with virtually no wear along the original fold lines. Being a glossy poster the studio lighting has highlighted the folds / creases and they're not as apparent when displayed in natural / room light. 

 

The poster has been professionally framed using conservation grade backing paper and is ready to hang. Including the frame it measures 107cm high x 71.5cm wide x 2.5cm deep.
