This cleverly made, faux book, wooden box dates to the 1880s/'90s. The spine acts as the front to a drawer that slides out from the main body - probably made for games counters, perhaps keepsakes.

The veneered covers of the book have carefully chosen to emulate leather book covers (which ironically were designed to emulate wood). The spine slides up and down to engage a locking mechanism though this is no longer functional.

There is some surface scratching but generally the piece remains in a good condition with a lovely surface and colour.

It measures 24.5cm high x 16cm wide x 6cm deep.
