Here we have a fantastic quality, 19th century "Eureka" slate meat safe by Goddard & Son of London. From an era before mechanised refridgeration, the cooling nature of the thick Welsh(?) slate would have helped preserve meats. 

 

This 'safe' / cabinet is made entirely of slate with the exception of the wooden door with it's metal mesh insert. It's a fantastically solid piece of furniture that would now function well as a side table with storage. 

 

It's survived the decades in good order with just a chipped front left corner and some light surface scratching being noteworthy. 

 

The piece measures 56cm high x 47cm wide x 35cm deep. As is to be expected, this is a weighty piece and so better suited to collection / delivery rather than postage. Please enquire with your address for a delivery quote.
