This striking, hand painted 'Private Estate - Caution - Gate Across Road' sign is comlete with a nice large, left facing manicule (pointing hand). 

 

The sign is painted on metal, surrounded with a wooden trim. It probably dates to around the 1940s. The metal sheet used has been repurposed from another sign - under a raking light it's possible to make out 'For Sale' along the top half of the sign and then what I think is a name along the lower half. Whether this was an enamel estate agents sign or another painted metal sign I don't know. 

 

 Years outside have caused some fading of the blue background and some flaking of the white lettering, but the sign remains perfectly legible with this aging adding to it's charms. 

 

A perfectly decorative in it's own right, the sign could also be put to use in a garden by those with a feeling of grandeur. 

 

The sign measures 66cm wide x 51cm high x 2.5 thick.
