PUBLIC TELEPHONE ENAMEL SIGN IN ORIGINAL FRAMEWORK
This 'You May Telephone From Here', double-sided enamel sign is a wonderfully preserved piece of early 20th century history. Still mounted in it's ornate metal framework, the cobalt blue and white enamel combo is wonderfully striking and it all harks back to a time when everything, right down to the public telephone signage, was done properly.
The sign was designed to be mounted at 90 degrees to the wall and so occupies minimal wall space - it's an excellent 'filler' piece. Dating from the 1920s/'30s the sign remains in relatively excellent condition with a glossy, bright surface. There is a little enamel loss around the mounting holes and a patch of enamel loss to the middle of the lower edge - only really noticeable on one side of the sign.
The sign is approximately 53cm wide x 30.5cm high (78.5cm including the frame) x 11cm deep
