HUNTLEY & PALMERS BISCUITS TIN SIGN

A real rarity; this Huntley & Palmers Biscuits litho printed tin sign was produced by Max Cremnitz of Paris.
The English biscuit manufactuerer gained recognition in mainland Europe after winning the Grand Prix medal at the International Universal Exhibition of 1878 in Paris. The prize jury praised the company, calling it the 'unrivalled house, known throughout the world for its enormous output and for the excellent quality of its products.'. Thier success in 1878 is the central focus of this sign and almost certainly the reason for the unusual collaboration between a quinessentially English manufctuerer and a French advertising producer.
The sign is likely to date to the early 20th century; 1920s-30s and has survived the decades in reasonable order given the inherent vulnerabilities of these tin signs compared to their enamel counterparts. There are areas of loss, scuffs, scratches and some fading but nothing that impacts the legiblity of the piece and in my opinion add to it's antique charms / aesthetic.
Additional mounting holes have been added round the outer edges and the use of these would allow the sign to be displayed nice and flat.
It measures 59cm wide x 46cm high.
